Track Season is in full gear right now…. and there are two big stakes races today. Race 9, The Diana and Race 10, The Jim Dandy Stakes. I’m focused on the Jim Dandy today.

People wonder what these names of races come from…and Jim Dandy has an awesome story if you don’t already know.

Jim Dandy Basics:

  • Grade II Stakes Race with a “purse” of $600,000
  • For Three Year Olds
  • 1 1/8 Miles (9 furlongs)
  • Held Annually on the last Saturday in July since 1964.

The Jim Dandy was named in honor of the horse, Jim Dandy who was the winner of the 1930 Travers Stakes (we all know about Travers…) Jim Dandy won the race with 100-1 odds beating out Triple Crown winner, Gallant Fox. Pretty impressive.

You’ll recognize some well known names on today’s card which you have seen this in past races such as Will Take Charge, Palace Malice, Mylute and unfortunately Vyjack has been removed from today’s race.

Good Luck! I’ll be tweeting from the Track throughout the day 🙂 – Ci
